Dr Herman Kruger matriculated at Paul Roos Gimnasium in Stellenbosch in 1978 and commenced studying dentistry at the University of Stellenbosch in 1979. After qualifying as a dentist, he served in the South African Defence Force as a dental officer and worked overseas as a dentist before returning to South Africa to study medicine at the University of Stellenbosch in 1987. He completed his medical degree in 1990. He then completed his internship at Provincial Hospital in Port Elizabeth and worked as a medical officer at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth in the disciplines of General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Casualty and Anaesthetics until 1994 when he returned to Stellenbosch to commence post graduate studies in the specialty of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery. He completed the post graduate exams in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery through the College of Medicine and after registering as an Oral andMaxillofacial Specialist, he started private specialist practice and in the part-time public service in East London in 1999. He is one of a few Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons in South Africa that holds both a medical and dental degree.
