Description
I was blessed to grow up in the Western Cape with all of its natural beauty. My brother and I completed our schooling at Rondebosch Boys’ High School, and I went on to Stellenbosch University in the winelands and to Tygerberg Medical Campus to undergo my medical training. After graduation in December 1997 I served my intern or house officer year at Edendale Hospital in Pietermaritzberg which threw me in the deep end and I loved it. I chose to go to a small mission hospital in Northern Kwazulu-Natal for the Doctors’ Community Service year that had just been introduced. Mseleni Hospital, on the shores of Lake Sibaya, was a brilliant experience for me and I am eternally grateful to the staff there for their bold selflessness and unconditional love for their patients.
I then chose to go to England where I worked in various Senior House Officer positions in Neurosurgery, General Surgery and Accident and Emergency.
It was most rewarding to return to South Africa and serve as a surgery Medical Officer in Frere Hospital, East London until the end of 2001 and I finished the year on Honeymoon in the Transkei with my lovely new wife, Michelle.
We both enjoyed our working holiday in Queensland Australia in 2002, where I filled GP locum positions, and then returned to Cape Town for the first of two years of General Surgery Registrar training at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town. I learned a huge amount during this time operating with specialists and being exposed to their subspecialties.
In 2005 I began my rotation in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Tygerberg Hospital and was registered for MMed with the University of Stellenbosch. I knew from the first ward round with Prof Zeeman that I was in the right place and that the years of different experiences had been preparing me for this speciality. I had the pleasure of working with and learning from Prof Graewe, Dr ABC, Dr Zulke and my fellow registrars for 4 amazing years. I Graduated in 2008 with the Fellowship of the College of Medicine of South Africa, and pursued a Clinical Fellowship abroad.
Prof Giovanni Botti hosted me for a purely Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship in his private cosmetic clinic overlooking Lake Garda in Northern Italy until mid 2009. I was welcomed like family, and tutored like an apprentice learning from a Master. Thank you Prof Botti and all at Villa Bella.
My Private Practice was established in East London, South Africa in July 2009, and I have been warmly received by the medical community here. My practice is busy, and I am challenged by the broad spectrum of reconstructive and cosmetic patients that I treat. I value every interaction I have with my patients, and share in their journeys to restoration or rejuvenation.
My family and I are happily settled here and blessed by the outdoors and beach lifestyle we have on our doorstep. If you don’t meet me at work you might find me paddling on the Nahoon River, or playing with my kids on the beach.
To God be the Glory!
