Description
In the last few years the possibilities in the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatological diseases have improved considerably. Today, diseases can not only be diagnosed earlier, but also treated more effectively, thus preventing damage to the joints or organs. In inflammatory rheumatic diseases (so-called autoimmune diseases), the immune system is directed against the own body and leads to an inflammatory reaction. The most common is inflammation of the joints and spine. Organs such as the lungs, heart, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, skin and the blood or nervous system can also be affected. Contrary to popular belief, inflammatory rheumatic diseases do not only affect the elderly, but can already occur in childhood or adolescence and very often in young adults. If recognized in time and correctly, rheumatism can be treated at any age.
